New Year, No Fear

It's 2014! I survived 2013! It wasn't bloody easy but I did it. And now the inevitable "new years resolution" ideas are thrust in our faces in magazines, in ads on the internet; society is just desperate for us to "better ourselves". Well fuck the system!

New year resolutions are there to provide a sense of hope and change, but really all they do is make you feel a failure for not being able to keep up with them. The only positive spin I can find to put on a new years resolution is that they could be seen as a reminder that you can't change yourself. You are who you are. That's something to be celebrated though, you shouldn't feel like a let-down for reverting to the ways you are used to or that you prefer! Plus, new years don't come around very often. If you "break" a resolution, you're likely to feel it's completely ruined and therefore it's time to give up completely. Until the next "new start". No!

I completely understand people wanting to lose a bit of weight, or to stop smoking. But you can do that any day. You don't need the hype of a whole different year to do that. Today is Wednesday. Wednesday isn't a special day. If anything, Wednesday is the day in most ordinary weeks that we hate the most. It's not even like it's a Monday, a new start in a new week. It means nothing. London set off a shit loads of fireworks to celebrate a Wednesday - the fuck?!

Do what you want. You can change things in your life, but you don't have to drum a make-it-or-break-it attitude into your head just because it's the "done" thing when we change the last number of the date. It's just another day. Every day is a new start. You can do whatever you want, whenever you want. Apart from like, telekinesis and shit. Can't do that.

Happy New Wednesday.
